Compression

Raising Compression

Russjrat – Winter 2009

How much can be safely removed from Crosley block to raise compression. I bought a hotter cam and want to be able to lift front wheels off ground with a Hotshot.

You can take .050 off the bottom of the cylinder assembly. After that the piston hits the spark plug, and valves. I should mentioned it also depends on how much lift your cam has. You must have .060 clearance between piston and valve. With a .290 lift cam, the maximum you can shave is .050. If you have a .300 lift cam, then you can only grind .040 off of the bottom of the cylinder base
