CAC Nationals - Modified Mayhem 2026

Looks like we had the best week in July for NW Ohio. High heat gave us a break, with a bit of rain, no Canadian smoke and a dip in gas prices.

Modified's were the Spotlight class this year and we had a bunch of them.

Early in the Week

Week started slow, several long time early campers couldn't come this year because of age, sickness, and other commitments. Then the fairgrounds changed the camping rules so early arrivers had to park different than they had in the past, that was fixed by Monday when we came under "Special Event" status and camping rules were relaxed. Early flea market vendors started setting up on Monday and were open all week.

The early birds had a good time catching up, many of us only see each other once a year. The Early Bird Picnic hosted by the Hawkeye Region was well attended and we had some great BBQ again this year with all the trimmings.

Monday setup for the club was a challenge this year, the building we have used for over 50 years is in the process of being completely remodeled. We moved into a large area under the grandstands, that may be our new permanent location since it was implied the restored building will not be available to us in the future.

By Wednesday the stream of members coming in had speedup and it looked more like a normal Nationals. Crafts for kids started on Tuesday.

Thursday - Friday - Games
Nursing Home Tour - Tiny Road Rally

Thursday and Friday was back to back activities. Starting with a WOman's breakfast gathering in the air conditioned Jr Fair building and the board meeting. The Silent Auction officially opened, it started filling up and taking early bids earlier in the week. Fulton County Nursing home show was well attended with a secondary unplanned smaller show when about half the cars made a wrong tern and started setting up at a senior citizen complex, before someone told them they were in the wrong place.

New this year was painting classes for adults and older youth that wanted to learn. A few Tech Talks were scattered through the weeks. FARMO bingo was offered in the air conditioning before we gathered for the Keystone Road Rally to Tinys. Some of us took modern this year because of forecasted showers that didn't come, followed by a nice fireside chat.

Friday was race day, first Pine Wood for the kids and then Valve Cover for the adults, lots of fun. Craft's for kids condinued. Annual Banquet was one of the biggest ever. Movie's were shown throuut the week not always when or where the schedule said but instead when they had an audience.

Main Show Field

Saturday - Show Time

Cars were lined up for photographs by 7:30 Saturday morning and the show field started filling up. Nice showing of SpotLight Modifies and Winner Circle past winners. Total on the show field was reported as 90 but a lot of cars on the grounds were too busy running around or for sale in flea market, to be on the show field so I think we had a total of around 100 again this year.

Kids had another one of their famous treasure hunts this year. Silent Auction had lots of bidders as it grew to an end.

Mid afternoon we gathered for award presentations and several checks from the foundation were handed out including two scholarships this year. The business part of the gathering was then held with Andy being reelected and three board positions filled. Because of the move of the main meet building we shift the show to the South end of the fairway. With the show shift the flea market was a long ways from the show so the meet chairman and board are planning to move the flea market next year to align with the new show field
