CCOC - Crosley Car Owners Club History

The Crosley Car Owners Club started in 1952 with George W. Drum as its first director, in Charlotte North Carolina.  It cost $3 per year for 6 issues of the Crosley Car Owner's Bulletin(CCOB) that were a 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 format.  Their first meet was held July 18th 1954 in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio.  They had 51 members from 12 states showing 43 Crosleys.

After printing 15 issues the Directorship of the club was passed to Donald Rice of Bedford, PA.  This puts us at the Jan-Feb issue for 1955. Don started his Bulletins starting with issue No 1.   The Second meet they held was on August 14th 1955, in Perkasie, PA.  Members from 10 states showed 37 Crosleys.

About the time George Drum gave up the Directorship of the club he became associated with Service Motors in Elmond, New York.  In early 1956 Service Motors took over the running of the club making George Drum Managing Director.  Service Motors had been giving a discount to members of CCOC for many years.  Don Rice had printed 9 issues of CCOB.

George printed his first issue as No 25 combining the first two series as one set of 24.  The Bulletin went to 8 1/2 X 11 with issue 26 and by issue 27 the frequency had dropped to 4 times a year.  Issue No 28 had a name, Crosley Bulletin, No 29 had Small-Car added to the name. Since Service Motors also sold foreign car parts at that time, a little on foreign car showed up over the time they had control. By late 1958 the Bulletin was on the way out, as was the club which by then was just a discount club for parts.  Only a few more issues were printed.  The latest issue I've ever seen was marked Spring 1960 No 32.  I received this issue when I joined in 1962 or 63.

To complete the history of Crosley Clubs we have to jump to the year 1969.  In that year two clubs started, as best I can tell without knowledge of each other till in full operation.

The Miamisburg Crosley Car Club(MCCC) was started by Nita Cummins in Miamisburg, Ohio.  She had a loose link with the original club in that Service Motors was a big backer of her club and may have encouraged its beginning.  She ran MCCC at $3 per year for four issues, till October 1975.  She folded the club when it was no longer possible to run the club on $3 per year and did not want to raise dues.

John Abiel of  Montville, New Jersey, started our club, Crosley Automobile Club(CAC), also in 1969 with an ad in Hemmings.  He put  out his first Newsletter in 1970.  We are still going strong with the leadership passing through 6 more presidents, Jim Bollman - October 1972,  Carl Solheim - July 1984, Jim Welther - July 1986, Jim Friday - July 1988, and Shawn Robinson - July 2002, Dave Anspach - November 2005.
